“Zeus”
“Playing Around”
My mother taught me to sew at an early age, around 8, I believe. My “craft” at the time was that of sewing clothes for my dolls. Soon, however, I made my first quilt from my outgrown clothes, painstakingly cutting squares, sewing together in a basic patchwork design, basted with yarn. I still have this quilt today!
Interested in making money as I entered my teenage years, I made lady’s golf hats to sell at our local golf club. I was making my own clothes during high school too.
During my 20’s and 30’s, my sewing turned to home decor as I moved from apartment to apartment and eventually home to home, making draperies and pillows and such.
Sewing and creativity went into hibernation as my career blossomed and my focus was squarely on reaching higher and higher goals I’d set for myself. Mission accomplished. Check. Done.
I was ready for retirement. My fear of “what will I do with my time; I have no hobbies?” that I had carried with me for decades was suddenly gone, disappeared without a trace. No looking back! My days are filled with creative freedom I’d never known before. My exploration is fresh and without bounds.
My preferred medium is fabric. I love the texture and variety with which to work and manipulate what I’m holding in my hands. My pieces range in size, functionally and material sourcing.
Inspiration comes from everywhere. Sometimes it’s the fabric that drives the design bus and other times it takes a backseat and simply provides the structure for an idea.
